Tumour Tissue Testing for Targeted Cancer Therapy

Why Test Your Tumour DNA?

Whether you are just beginning treatment or have already begun, it is crucial to conduct a detailed genetic analysis of your tumour DNA. This is because only with a personalized, detailed genetic analysis can you and your treatment team be confident that you are getting the right treatment for your cancer: otherwise known as Targeted Cancer Therapy.

It is now understood that cancer is not a single disease, but rather it is a disease that is unique in every individual.

Therefore, successful cancer treatment must be approached in a personalized way on all levels including your diet, your diagnostics and treatment monitoring, and your targeted cancer treatment.

When we have the data that a genetic testing of your tumour tissue provides, we can have absolute confidence about what is driving your specific form of cancer, which means we can create the best possible treatment strategy for you worldwide:

Directly targeting the mutations that are triggering your cancer cells to reproduce, while reducing the side-effects of treatment, maximizing treatment outcome, and reducing the potential for recurrence.

In fact, in the year 2017, getting cancer treatment without knowing the mutations that are driving your cancer is just gambling with your health. Valuable time can be wasted on the wrong treatment entirely – or on one that may attend to one of your mutations, but exacerbate another, or cause unnecessary side-effects. Additionally, when you know the mutations that are driving your cancer, you can engage in a targeted nutraceutical diet, which science has repeatedly shown to greatly enhance the impact of your treatment.

At CTOAM we want you to have the best chance for success! That’s why we use the latest and most comprehensive sequencing panels for identifying your unique set of mutations and for identifying the best targeted cancer therapy for you.

How Genetic Tumour Testing Works:

The tumour DNA sequencing panels that we use are the most comprehensive panels available (exploring up to 700 possible mutations), producing quality data for our personalized cancer researchers, and are also the the most reasonably priced, with the best turnaround time for results.

Our genetic tests utilize next-generation sequencing to identify alterations in all genes known to be somatically altered in human solid tumour cancers.

These genetic tumour tissue tests will give you confidence in your treatment protocol because you’ll know for sure that the treatment you are getting is the best to target the specific mutations that are driving your cancer.

The results we see with many of our patients after just a few weeks on the right treatment for them are startling in terms of tumour size reduction and increase in patient physical energy levels. The days of having to feel crappy while getting cancer treatment are nearing a close!

With targeted cancer therapy, it doesn’t have to be as hard on your body for you to experience successful cancer treatment. That’s why we feel so strongly that detailed tumour tissue testing, and the clear identification of your unique set of mutations that it provides, is a must if you want to know you’re getting the right treatment for your unique form of cancer.

How CTOAM Helps You

We begin by arranging for your tumor tissue to be prepared for testing and shipped to a DNA sequencing facility.

Once it has arrived, the staff run your tumour tissue through their procedure, and identify the genes that are mutated in your tissue and causing the cancer cells to proliferate in your body.

Within 2-3 weeks we will receive the raw data on the mutations that were found in your tumour tissue and then conduct detailed personalized research into each of your mutations and their interactions: exploring what is known about these mutations, and identifying the best treatments that are currently available for those mutations individually, as well as for the interplay between them.

From the personalized research we conduct on your behalf, we formulate a detailed list of treatment options, showing results greater than those of standard treatment. We prepare the necessary documentation and peer-reviewed, scientific references to support our findings and then we consult with you to share our data.

Thanks to advanced genetic testing, you and your treatment team will have the concrete data you need to know which treatments can benefit you most, and also which treatments could be harmful or not at all beneficial to you.

Advanced Genetic Testing is a fundamental piece of the Personalized Medicine and Precision Oncology approach to cancer treatment. As such, we are very pleased to be able to provide our patients with immediate access to this important test and the life-saving information it provides.

What It Costs and What You Get

The cost of testing for CTOAM PATIENTS is based on the cost of the specific test(s) you require, 15 hours of research and analysis time, plus GST. Please contact us for pricing.

The fee includes:

  • The Detailed Genetic Panel, as well as
  • CTOAM’s detailed personalized research, identifying the best targeted cancer therapy options for you,
  • A Detailed Report of our findings to you and your oncologist, and
  • Hours of Direct Consultation Time with our staff.

From these services you will obtain a detailed list of the best, personalized treatment options that science and medicine have to offer for your cancer at this time, and we’ll show you how to access them.*

Why Should YOU Use CTOAM’s Advanced Cancer Consultation Services

While tumour DNA sequencing is becoming more commonplace, most tests only report well known mutations and do not report or even consider variables of unknown significance (VUS). VUSes are genetic mutations in genes that have not yet been characterized or researched and are unique to you.

So why is this important?

A recent study showed that patients with prostate cancer with BRCA mutations had significantly higher rates of metastatic disease (17.4% vs 4.4%), and higher rates of stage T3/T4 cancer (40.3% vs 10.8%) than those without BRCA mutations.

More importantly, this was also associated with variables of unknown significance (VUSes).

In most cases, we find pathogenic mutations in genes that were not even considered in the original treatment of the patients. Not using all of the genetic data to stratify a cancer subtype can result in doctors using expensive therapies and treatments, often at the patient’s expense, that do not work, and can result in missed opportunities for other drugs that may be effective.

Just because your treatment team has ordered a tumour DNA sequencing panel for you, it does NOT mean that they have done the proper analysis of the data to ensure that you are getting the best treatments.

We often see oncologists incorrectly using genetic DNA information for treatment purposes and have yet to see one that even considers VUS.

We ONLY use DNA sequencing panels that report ALL VUS regardless of the gene, and we then use sophisticated DNA and protein modelling methods to determine if the VUS are indeed pathogenic or not.

Since cancer research is advancing at an exponential pace, the data on known mutations is often well out of date by the time it is accepted and new studies and data on VUS occurs on a regular basis.

Once we have the VUS that are specific to your case, we can go back and revisit them on a regular basis to ensure you are getting the latest and the best treatments for your unique genetic background.
